Last month I sat across from a real developer and showed him my GitHub repo. He scrolled through it quietly, then looked up and said, "I would have thought you were a seasoned developer."
I built a full CRM. Automated workflows. A mortgage operating system. Weeks of deep work. Real infrastructure that actually runs my business.
I should have been proud. I was, for a second. Then the thought hit me: When's the last time I made a decision without asking AI first?
I'd started putting everything through the machine. Got a message I wasn't sure how to respond to? Ran it through Claude. Had a decision to make on a referral relationship? Asked the model. Wrote something. Fed it back. Got suggestions. Rewrote it. Sent something polished, optimized — and completely unlike me.
Every time I got a fast, confident answer back, I got a small hit of relief — and my decision-making muscle atrophied a little more.
My business started to slip. Deals went quiet. People ghosted me. That wasn't my pattern.
Part of it is the market — it's brutal right now. But part of it was me. I didn't feel the same connection with clients I used to feel. And I think I know why: I stopped showing up fully present because I stopped trusting my own read.
People can feel when you're fully in the room. They can also feel when you're not.
AI didn't make me worse at my job. Letting AI replace my thinking did. There's a real difference.
I've got years of pattern recognition, real consequences, and a specific way of connecting with people that has moved the needle in their lives. That's not in a chat window. And if you stop exercising it, you lose it.
My reset: form my own answer first — always. Then use AI to pressure-test it. For anything relational or instinct-based, I make the call myself. No consultation.
This applies to you too. The tool is not the problem. The pattern is.
How many decisions have you outsourced to a machine this week?

Tools and prompts to save you time this week
Prompt of the Week
“I'm about to send a message to [client/agent name] about [situation]. Here's what I was going to say: [paste your draft]. Don't rewrite it — just tell me what's working, what's off, and what I might be missing. Keep my voice intact.”
Tool Tip
There's a test worth running on yourself this week: before you open ChatGPT or Claude, write your answer first — even just a rough sentence or two. Then ask AI to react to it. You'll notice your output gets sharper, your voice stays intact, and you stop second-guessing decisions you already knew the answer to. AI is a pressure-tester. The moment it becomes your first move, it starts replacing the instinct you built your business on.
